Have you seen black spiders with white spots in your home before? It is likely that you have as they are often found on the siding around your house where they can easily move inside if needed. These spiders are considered jumping spiders and can move and shift at incredible rates. There are a great number of them in Utah. Are They Dangerous?Jumping spiders are often feared as their movements are quick, but they are not actually dangerous towards people. In fact, unless you bother a jumping spider, it will likely not want anything to do with you. They may bite if they are interrupted or bothered by you, but their bite is not dangerous and will only cause a slight bit of discomfort. An interesting fact about jumping spiders is that they do not create webs. Unlike most spiders, jumping spiders do not utilize a web and instead build cocoons. Jumping spiders lay out a long string as they go that they utilize to help them get from point A to point B. This string is similar to a web, but is used different by the jumping spider. When it comes time to have babies and hide away for the winter, the jumping spider will create a cocoon for themselves and their babies. How to Identify a Jumping SpiderJumping spiders are fairly easy to identify. They are dark in color and have small white spots on their abdomen. They are usually fairly hairy as well. Some jumping spiders also have a red or orange colored spot on their back. While most jumping spiders are black, some are dark brown in color. You can also expect to notice some very large buggy looking eyes on the front of the spider. Jumping spiders still have 8 eyes, but you only notice the two dominate eyes that are on the front of the spider. The eyes are large and they will stand out as dominating. How to Get Rid of Jumping SpidersIf you hate that there are jumping spiders taking over your home, you can have them removed by hiring a pest control company. It is important to note that a small number of jumping spiders is important for the ecosystem of your yard. Jumping spiders are great at keeping the number of insects in your yard to a minimal number so you do not have an overwhelming number of flies and grasshoppers eating your plants. You should consider the balance of spiders vs insects in your yard.
